May 1st, known in Berlin as “May Day”, is historically a day of protest by workers. As the city shuts down for the day, the streets are filled with protesters, riot police, cars on fire, outdoor parties, and thousands of people out to enjoy the day and party well into the night. This year, Berlin was blessed with gorgeous Spring weather, good vibes, and (as far as I saw) a burning-car-free, city-wide celebration.
