May 1st, known in Berlin as “May Day”, is historically a day of protest by workers. As the city shuts down for the day, the streets are filled with protesters, riot police, cars on fire, outdoor parties, and thousands of people out to enjoy the day and party well into the night. This year, Berlin was blessed with gorgeous Spring weather, good vibes, and (as far as I saw) a burning-car-free, city-wide celebration.

Gigs: Ray Mann May(hem) Day DJ set, Berlin
Berlin apparently goes illegally nuts on May 1st (I’m hearing talk of burning cars, riot police, that kinda thing). I’m both curious and frightened (much like I was over New Year’s Apocalypse Now Eve).
So I’ll be taking refuge in the safe house, the big house – Jail Bar – spinning soul, hip-hop and “Why Can’t We Be Friends”. Prolly be live-tweeting the set too, so join me on Twitter or in Jail.
