Blog 1208: Australian ‘Sketches’ Tour ~ 4

During our week off, I got to cross paths – and get my gangsta lean on – with the one new Australian act I wanted to make sure I saw live during this Aussie visit…

If you haven’t come across Melbourne’s Hiatus Kaiyote, and you’re into the Philadelphia sound that’s inspired so much of what I do, then why don’t you check them out already? My words won’t do them justice.

A friend of mine put me onto them, all the way over in Berlin. After my first listen to their album, I was both awed and intimidated that this music was coming out of Australia. I only found out later that Questo and Erykah felt similarly…

Though both our bands have been touring the past month, our paths intersected in Sydney and I got to see them live (and get my fanboy on – hard). My one-word review: Wuh.

Big things are already happening for this band – watch em…

Today I land in Melbourne to kick around for a few days (and maybe even shoot a new Sketch?) ahead of our final show of the tour, and my last Aussie show indefinitely, on Wednesday 5 December at The Toff in Town.

Hope to see yaz there,

R x
