Ray Mann: Multimedia Shows

Ray Mann brings his live music show and video art projections together for three very special nights in Sydney in June.

Fresh (we hope!) from his first-ever tour of Japan with The Ray Mann Three in May, Sydney’s troubadour of soul will return home to perform his music solo, alongside video art projections designed by Ray himself, in a series over three nights.

Adding another dimension to the “multimedia” part of the series, each show will be streamed live on NeonHearts TV.

Each night Ray will be joined by a different special guest (and their own visuals), in the intimate setting of Sin-é at Café Lounge, Surry Hills, Sydney:

This trio of shows is a sequel to The Ray Mann Three: Music & Art Show earlier this year, which combined The Ray Mann Three live music performance, printed pieces from Ray Mann: Art Exhibition, and live video projections designed by Ray, based on the distinct, organic, minimalist style which characterizes his art as well as his music.

Over the past four years, Sydney artist Raymond Wassef, a.k.a. Ray Mann, has been making music and art with soul band The Ray Mann Three. His debut into the art world is a retrospective of the gig posters, eflyers, motion graphics and music videos he has produced, presented by Somedays Gallery in Sydney.

Inspired by 1950s music and film, and characterized by the same minimalist, low-fi aesthetic as his band’s music, Ray’s sketches, photography and design retain their original hand-generated warmth right through to the digital finish.

Until now, Ray’s band-related art has only ever been viewed on computer or TV screens, or when projected during the band’s live shows. This exhibition at Somedays marks the first occasion that the physical works will be presented as a series in their own right.

The gallery is located across the road from The Hopetoun, where The Ray Mann Three will be playing a show on 26 September to celebrate the exhibition – see gig details.
